Breath of Life ~
C.S. Lewis wrote in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe about a majestic lion named Aslan, and his adversary: a freezing White Witch named Jadis. Throughout the story, Jadis decides to turn creatures to stone whenever she pleases, through the art of temptation or out of simple pleasure. But Aslan restores them by breathing his deep, lion-breath atop their surface and transforms them from death to life. In this book, Aslan seems to display a characteristic of God, reminding me of the second chapter of Genesis. In that chapter, God creates humans out of dust matter by breathing the breath of life into them--creating living souls.
These blog entries portray breaths of life for me, places where I have felt dead and then restored. I am a simple, complex human, mama of deep child lovin’, people-serving creature. I study all kinds of material, but never intend to be a theologian. And while I may have theories, theories are only what they are. This blog is a collection of thoughts, metaphors, analogies, and my intimate family moments. It’s been a journey I never expected, nor organized my life around. In fact, I tried to stay clear of the hardest times of my life only to find myself right in the middle of my worst fears.
On April 25th, 2018 God used a roaring, tender, deep-rooted character of a man who seemed like Aslan to breathe the breath of life into my soul. He delicately picked up my broken spirit, my teenage girls, flung us with a right hook on his back, and muzzle clamped fear. He then sprinted us safely towards being more alive than we could have ever imagined. Something we would need forever, whether we wanted it or not. He left us with the breath of life.
This breath has transformed many things for me. The character of my children and their impact on my life, a restored marriage when there was no hope, restoration of our home, and the reprieve He gives when death has no sting.
My hope is that you and I become friends through thoughts and experiences, or maybe that we are already friends and we find comfort as we process the highs and lows of life together. Lastly, I want you and I to follow where love takes us, and to keep moving forward--engaging in the goodness that lies right here in front of the tips of our toes.
